I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 1x12 extension cabinet and after removing all the screws the back still won’t come off.

I read somewhere that the cabinet is made of particle board, and there is pretty much NO gap in there so I’m wary of trying to just muscle it off with a pry bar, screwdriver, etc.

Has anyone had to deal with this and successfully removed the back without damaging the board or tolex??

Any pics ? A bit odd , but a toilet plunger might help you get a good grip on it .

We have a similar idea. I was thinking about those auto glass suction handles. It’s just a standard hot rod deluxe extension cab. Looks like new.

I don;t think any suction device will stick to the tolex or tweed or whatever covering you have over the wood. I’ve experienced this with my Mesa cab and a couple of Vietnamese made Marshall cabs. Those were MDF (medium Density Fiberboard) which is even worse than chip board. I took a butter knife and slipped it in between the two pieces at multiple locations to loosen it. That has worked before.

Further, if you have a jack plate on the back of the cab, you can unscrew that and reach your fingers in the hole and gif it a yank, at least if the wires are long enough to allow you to move the plate enough to get your fingers in there.

I was eyeballing the jack plate as well. If I can't get suction to work I'll give that a try.

If you're ever wondering about the construction of something and it's currently still for sale by the company, such as a HRD 112 enclosure, you can check said company's website to confirm whatever it is you need to know. For instance, Fender lists what these are constructed from: 3/4" particle board.

Tbh, I was actually surprised to see that. I assumed they were wood like the combo cabs. I guess particle board makes sense for a speaker cab. That's what they're usually made of for car audio systems, for example, so why try to fix something that ain't broke?

I've had the same some time ago with the backside of my Blackheart Combo.
It's just kind of glue from the tolex.
Put in some bigger screws to get it with pliers and pull it out

Have you tried popping the grill off and seeing if perhaps the speaker is mounted from the front, thus maybe permitting you to remove the speaker and access the cab interior from there?
